Incident Management System - The Public Health Role
This module is intended to provide an opportunity for the application of previously learned Incident Management System concepts to public health-based scenarios. By understanding their own role in Incident Management System, public health professionals will be better prepared to lead and participate in their agency's response to crisis situations where interaction with other local, state and federal partners is crucial.

Emergency Preparedness and Response Fundamentals - Training for Environmental Health Professionals
This training for environmental health professionals addresses basic environmental health concepts - concepts that are important to front line staff with years of experience and to those who are new in the field. For all, these courses are designed to increase awareness of the EHP role in preparedness and disaster response. This course consists of two modules: Emergency Preparedness and Response Fundamentals and Putting Principles into Practice.

University of Minnesota Public Health Emergency Training (UM PHET)
The University of Minnesota Public Health Emergency Training (UM PHET) is a series of awareness-level online educational modules covering various topics related to emergency preparedness. Modules currently available are Special Populations and Contact Investigation; Disease Surveillance; Isolation and Quarantine; Disaster Mental Health; Personal Protective Equipment; and Decontamination. These modules are designed to contribute development of a subset of the Bioterrorism/Emergency Readiness Competencies created by Columbia University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Application of Surveillance Principles to Food Safety - Online Module
This module reviews concepts and practices related to the surveillance of foodborne diseases and the investigation of foodborne outbreaks. It reviews the major known food-borne diseases, issues related to their surveillance, and how surveillance forms the basis for prevention and control activities. The module will be a good resource for individuals engaged in food safety activities including environmental health specialists, sanitarians, public health nurses who do case investigations involved with food safety, and a wide variety of other public health workers.

PubH 7200-001 Incident Management System (1 credit)
PubH 7200 is designed to provide public health personnel and other community officials with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage personnel and resources in an emergency incident. The incident management system (known in Minnesota as the Minnesota Incident Management System, or MIMS) provides a formalized and common method of management practices applicable in virtually any setting. By understanding Incident Management Systems, public health professionals will be better prepared to lead their agency’s response in crisis situations where interaction with other local, state, and federal partners is crucial.

Mold Identification
This three-day conference will provide you with an opportunity for concentrated skill development in sampling, identifying mold, and developing qualitative risk assessments based on sampling data.

OSHA 502: Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers
This course is designed for personnel in the private sector who have completed #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry and who are active trainers in the outreach program. It provides an update on such topics as OSHA construction standards, policies, and regulations.

Evacuation Coordination

This four hour course covers the basics of executing an emergency evacuation plan on site. Topics include developing an evacuation plan, identifying means of egress, key components of evacuation, fixed fire systems, and the elements of the incident command framework. Students will develop an evacuation plan for their place of employment.

Incident Management System Awareness

This four hour course offers an overview of the Incident Management System based on an “all hazards” approach to emergencies. The course covers the basics of functions of IMS, effective vocabulary for communication at the scene and the proper identification of roles and responsibilities during an emergency.

Minnesota Incident Management System

This 16 hour course provides “real life” scenarios to use in incident command and response, and builds upon the four hour introductory course. An overview of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) is included. The course meets the National Incident Management System Certification.

Hazardous Waste Site Worker Courses 8, 24, and 40 hour courses

These courses are designed to meet the OSHA 1910.120 standard for hazardous materials identification and response. Topics include incident review, hazard recognition, evaluation and control, monitoring equipment, respiratory protection, safe work practice and decontamination. Students enrolled in the 24 hour course receive “Operations Level” certification; students in the 40 hour course will be certified as “Hazardous Material Technicians.” Equipment training is provided.

Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Training, 8, 24, 40 hour courses

These courses are designed to meet the OSHA 1910.120 standard for emergency response to a hazardous materials incident, with a focus on defensive response. Topics include decontamination, emergency response and termination procedures, health hazard recognition and risk assessment, incident command and relevant local, state and federal regulations.
